Artist Statement
Yellow Bird

I explore the inherent value of human existence and the experience of being seen and accepted as we are through illustration, painting, and picture books.

A yellow bird appears repeatedly throughout my work. The yellow bird is a symbolic presence that is invisible yet deeply believed to exist. It represents a being that sees people beyond their abilities, conditions, or achievements — a presence that embraces, supports, and protects each person simply for who they are.

I observe landscapes and portray people, but I always place the yellow bird within these scenes. Introducing an imaginary presence into the visible world is not an attempt to distort reality, but a way of revealing something that cannot be seen yet remains present around us: the feeling of love, protection, and the inherent value within every human being.

My work brings together the visible world and the invisible presence that exists within it. Through my paintings, illustrations, and picture books, I hope to create moments where people can recognize their own unique worth and look at one another with greater warmth and compassion.
